3rd Base & Shortstop - The SHOOTING GALLERY
This is where the action is - if the batters are right-handed and the pitching efforts are up to normal (2006) Alice standards.
There are very few members of the squad that eagerly ask Coach Watts re the possibility of fielding in these positions. In fact, it is usually left to those that are too slow to step back from the line of volunteers - this IS an area where some Bulls display 'fleet of foot' abilities, be it only backwards (is this suggestive of something?).
Anyway back to the problem at hand. As the writer sees it there are limited options in these key roles.

John(s) Gooley and Winter (yes! - I bet you didn't know that one) are in the mix with Nic Kuring and Norm (Sgt Slaughter) Sluga. Consta and Inkura have both represented Australia in baseball (for goodness sake!) therefore their superior skills and years of experience, even though they total well in excess of 110 years collectively, results in them being 'monties'.
Bruce Winter (aka John) has previously proven his ability to text discreet messages from his mobile while holding down 3rd at the same instant - impressive indeed. Norm deserves to get one of these acts simply due to the fact that he believes in a fitness routine - this goes against the moral fibre of an outfit that has devoted years to merit the credentials and reputation that the Bulls bask in - front bar Olympics!
Greg Milburn and Glen Brewer have done 'time' there before and cannot be discounted from the equations but both have recently been spied practicing their backward step movement.
Martin Foster (the poor man's Daisy Pearce) is one contender that has never been able to move backwards - maybe it's the result of inertia or the fact that Froggs don't jump in any direct ion but forward. Doesn't matter anyway, I bet 3rd is the only space we'll see him occupying at Alice.
Jamie (I'm really a utility) Bishop would consider himself a contender (if not pitching) but he invariably ends up screwing himself into the ground trying to make the throw to 1st.
Others that could surprise (if they're not careful) are Bruce (try and hit it past me) Gordon, Craig (I'll slide forward for anything) Martin and maybe Dave (walk down memory lane) Kompo.
One thing is for certain, Coach Watts was able to be quoted as stating………"There is no way known that you will ever see me fielding anywhere near these positions. I was not put on this earth to be cannon fodder. The guys will do it for me - I have built this team and they will come" ----- Wonder if he was thinking about Tuesdays ??????
