Alice Diary - Day 8
Day 8 - The Sleeping Giant Awakes
Giving up an average of ten years and twenty kilos to every other team at the Alice Masters, the bulls have taken a little time to build momentum. Today is game 6 against the Eagles.
Following on from the previous day's theme, the bulls set out to discover who had had the least sleep. A similar group of contenders put there hand up, but no verifiable winner could be found.
The game was due for an 11:00am start. The now standard breakfast of anti-inflammatory pills and pain killers was consumed by all. We headed to the ground at 10:00am.
No-one was injured in the warm up and Coach Watts announced the line-up. Googley (aka Consta-Bull) was starting and pitched a blinder. 8 pitches, 3 outs no runs.
Middle of the 1st Bulls even 0-0.
The bats needed to play. And play they did, we batted the line up and scoring 3 runs. Hits to Kuring, Magoulianous, Martin and AJ.
End of the 1st, Bulls up 3-0
Bob Booker came in to pitch the second and pitched magnificently, giving up only one run. The bats came to play in our second innings.
End of the 2nd, Bulls up 7-1.
Bob's second dig was brilliant as well. He hit one batter and got rid of the rest. The bull bats failed in the 3rd.
End of the 3rd, Bulls up 7-1.
In the fourth things started to get exciting. The Eagles scored 4 and the Bulls scored 3.
End of the 4th, Bulls up 10-4.
The fifth innings Bob Indestructa-bull started to tire. His 66 year old body was unable to meet the demands of his 36 year old mind. He gave up 1 run before Coach Watts reached for the "hook". Zulu came to the mound and immediately got the batters jumping around. He broke several ribs on the first batter, broke the elbow of the second, gave up a hit, struck out the third batter and broke the ankle of the fourth. Ambulance filled, Coach Watts sent Vino to the mound for the final out.
Coach Watts muttered that "Zulu's 68 year body was unable to find the plate that his 48 year mind was demanding".
Middle of the 5th, Bulls down 11-10.
Zulu led off the inning hitting safely to centre field. Inkura-bull hit safely to left advancing Zulu to 2nd. Coach Watts grabbed Sergeant Slaughter (Untama-bull) slapped his face a couple of times and yelled, in best sergeant voice, "This is your chance to cover yourself in glory son. Get up there and destroy that mound!". Untama-bull delivered with a triple to centre that scored Zulu (borrowing Frogg's legs) and Incrua-bull.
BULLS WIN 12-11. BULLS WIN THEIR FIRST GAME SINCE 2004.
The crowd erupts, cheering. Tears flow. Bill Magoo sprints toward Coach Watts, and three feet away jumps. Bills momentum flattens Watta-bull and the rest of the bulls pile on. From under the pile Coach Watts makes an impassioned speech about the quality of the bulls. Unfortunately no one can hear from his face down in the grass position. Unpredicta-Bull who is closest to Coach Watts at the bottom of the pile, keeps asking "Are you alright? Can I pitch tomorrow?"
Post match press conference acknowledge the fantastic efforts, of Billy Magoo, 3 hits and 5 RBIs and Sluga, 3 hits and two RBIs. Bob Booker's pitching was also acknowledged. Vino Bull got the win.
The bulls abandoned the field and started the party. Someone suggested that we needed another lamb on a spit for the Bronze Medal Play Off tomorrow.
We are going to Wendy's tonight for dinner, but Invisa-bull is too busy celebrating the win to care where is his. Dinner at Wendy's was fabulous. Good food, Good band and lots to do. Invisi-bull knows he had a good time but his memory fades from about 9:00pm.
His memory does recall sitting at the poker table around midnight but fades shortly after.
